Playing on Data DVD problem

Howdy,

To save room on my harddrive, I burnt some .avi video files onto a DVD using Nero and made the DVD a data DVD to store more stuff. I tested out the movies files on the DVD to see if they were playable and they were. Few months later, tried to watch the files on the DVD but now came up with a message saying "Cannot play back the file. The Format is not supported". Tried the video file on different media players but all the same results. Any ideas on what might be wrong would be appriecated.
