sata 1 is 1.5gb/s, sata 2 is 3gb/s. can put a sata 2 hd on sata 1 connector & vice versa.

ddp, as usual, is correct. The new SATA 2 drives come with a jumper set to 1.5gb/s. You can install it, as is, in a SATA 1 system, but if you are using it in a SATA 2 system, you have to remove the jumper.

i made a thread about this but it got looked over..
I have heard that SATA can conflict with existing IDE drives. Will there be any issues adding a SATA drive to a system already running 3 IDE driveS?

Hi everyone,
this thread just caught my attention as i actually use 4 IDE drives on my pc(hard disk drive+burners).I'm planning to get a new SATA hdd to replace my actual IDE one, then intend to add another IDE disk drive to my pc,which will result in having one SATA hdd and 4 IDE disk drives.
But one thing i would like to ask, what do you mean by "raid",as you guys here mention that we should be careful not to "raid" them(like in forumcrew and my own situation?)
Thanks.
Vincent.

by raid we mean... well there r lots of raid settings the most common one is ex u have 2 80gb hard drive and u raid them the pc will recognize it as 1 160gb hd the other common type of raid is the pc recognizes the 2 hd as 1 80gb so the 2 hd will have the same information this is mostly used in servers in case 1 hd fails u have another exact copy

Thanks for the quick response elokito.
So if i understand well, the "raid" thing applies only when someone has more than one hard disk drive on his pc,right? And in my case,i'm gonna have only one hdd(the new SATA one)on my pc,then i guess there'll be no risk of raiding, right?
Thanks.

paralax....whatever you do, make sure you get the sata drivers for your new motherboard from your new mobo disk.Youll need these to load windows onto them.If youre really unlucky and have a gigabyte DS4 bag of shyte like mine, then make sure you have a ps2 keyboard...cos the dumb twunts at gigabyte disable usb by default.(that took me hours to work out).Crap user manual too.Guess whats appearing on ebay soon!!Best of luck
