Has anyone found a way to play mp4 movies on the PSP with 1.5 fw?
I have recently downgraded from 2.6 and the few MP4 movies I have worked fine when I was running 2.6- Now I can't seem to get them to play on the 1.5...
I created the MP_ROOT folder along with the 100MNV01 on my MS as directed by other members, however when I try to play the movies from the video icon-it just shows as "corrupted data" and that it cannot be played.
Any help would be appreciated...

i know the newer version of 3GP converter has settings that dont work with 1.5
i think they are the QVGA settings. the 368X208 work with 1.5

It has to be the up to date version of Nero ultra 7. change the profile to PSP Memory Stick, might not be exactly that but its close to that.

I apologize for my long response time...I initially used psp video 9 to convert the video to the MP4 format-for example one of my movies is named M4V10074, and then I have the .THM file along with it. What is bothering me is that I was able to play the movies pre-downgrade, now I am having no luck with the movies at all..I even tried transferring the movies over while emulating 2.71 via devhook-still nothing, just "corrupted data"

@hexitnow- thats where my problem began, on the 1.5
I just tried to transfer the movie while emulating 2.71 hoping it would work, but got the same result.
I think I have Nero 6 ultra-does that have the recode feature on it? Or, do I need to use the updated Nero 7? I imagine I could just recode the Mp4's I have right now so they would work using Nero.
I will give Nero a whirl and keep you guys posted.
Thanks for the suggestions-

you need Nero ultra 7, the most up to date version to convert to a psp compatible format. as for transferring movies dont do it while emulating 2.71 with devhook. do it on 1.5. I havent tried playing/transferring movies on 2.71/devhook, I only use 1.5 to do that. That could be your problem.

Does Nero Recode create the .THM file automatically? And what if I downloaded a file that was already a mp4 format that doesn't have a THM file, can I use any THM file to make it play?

I used Nero 7 to recode the MP4's I currently have- I must say, that is a pretty slick program..However, I ended up with the same results after recoding -"corrupted data" Not to mention it inflated the file size by about 100 or so MB's-(I am guessing while recoding, the quality was improved)I will try to rip a DVD or two and see if I can't get that working-I think maybe the files I have lost some integrity when copy & pasting them-So I will just start from scratch and see if a fresh DVD rip works or not..
@dusk77-the Nero recode not only creates a .THM file, but it creates the entire folder directory when you select the "psp memory stick" profile-ie;MP_ROOT, & the 100MNV01 folder and it gives you the option on the spot to transfer the directory and files right to your PSP once the recoding is complete..which I found to be pretty nice...
-As far as using any .THM file, I dont think that would work because I believe the file itself contains the info for that particular movie, such as the little picture or thumbnail you see when you go to your "videos"--although I could be mistaken on that..You could try renaming the .THM file to match your MP4 file, but you might end up with a movie that doesnt match the little picture you see..

So if there's not a .THM file, does anything show up when you go into your videos? Or, is it just a blank box?

Cool, thanks for clearing that up, I'm gonna try Recode from now on and I don't think that you can play a mp4 with the thm file as kcajblue mentioned, correct me if I'm wrong.

well so far I managed to get one movie to work using Nero 7-
Its a nice program, but it sure takes a long time to convert a movie..I just let it run overnight, so no big deal...
I am going to try again to recode the MP4's I currently have, and see if I have better luck this time..
Thanks for all the tips and suggestions guys..

If your a V1,50 user you,s shouldnt be using Nero or anyother crap.
What you should be using and i highly recommend that you do lads, is MeGUI, X264vfw wrap the lot in a PMP container and use Jonny of DOOM9,s PMPMOD AVC app, which runs 480x272 AVC movies on your V1.50.
Sonys native player is restricted to 76800 pixels where as Jonnys player displays a brilliant 130560 pixels.
Now what would you rather have?
