to play DS Roms on that thing you will need the PassWE3 or whatever its called. I wouldnt suggest picking up that card though.. I would rather go with something like this: http://www.getyourgameshere.com/store/in...&products_id=45

and the Superkey: http://www.getyourgameshere.com/store/in...&products_id=49

Its a little more expensive than the Ewin, but compatibility and homebrew support is widely available. Ewin doesn't have as much homebrew support, and I'm not so sure about compatibility either. Heard the patcher program crashes a lot..

If you flash your DS, you can play DS roms. You can also play it if you have that bundle I pointed out to you above, so you wouldn't need to replace firmware if you didn't want to.

I'm still brand new at the Nintendo DS scene myself, but I think I've got most of the basics down and I'll try to answer some of your questions.

No, from what I've read its a helpful feature to unbrick your DS if you download a bad firmware update and such. But you don't need to flash to play DS Roms.

You just need those three basic things pretty much.

Superkey
Supercard Lite (microSD)
A microSD.

You won't need the Superkey if you do decide to flash, however if you don't flash then you will need the Superkey in your DS everytime you want to access your homebrew, I believe.

if you don't have an SD card reader built in.. you'll need to buy one. Sometimes though the store will throw one in for free, so you may want to ask them before ordering if they'll do it on your order

So basically, this is what you will need:

Micro SD card (can get from Newegg - make sure it comes with the SD adapter)
Supercard Lite
SuperKey
SD Card Reader/Writer

Yes, It's a small adapter which you stick your microSD in and then send files through via USB. I've seen various people using different card readers and such, but it really doesn't matter aslong as it gets the job done.

Not sure what type of microSD size you're looking for but Sandisk sells a 512MB + microSD Adapter included for $20 on Newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820171110

But Sandisk makes really really good products, I use a 4GB Stick for my PSP and its great, fast speeds, durable, and 5 year warranty to back it up.

The combo is pretty good for the price, and since games usually are 16 to 64MB big (some are bigger) You can fit a decent amount of homebrew and roms in there. Don't quote me on this though, I'm sure it works flawlessly with what you're going to buy (Passkey + Supercard Lite) but since I'm still quite new at this, I'd wait for a more professional answer, this is just to give you a better understanding of the readers out there.

And last but not least, this is the other one I was looking at. I'll be honest and say I don't know much about IOGEAR.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820163304

Hope that helps.

Basically if you're looking for commercial ROMs with Gameboy Advance support, you will want the M3

If you want mainly NDS support, with little or no GBA support, the Supercard is the way to go

EWIN is still in its baby stages, and theres no english support forum for it (officially).. so I wouldn't even think about buying that.

For what MrSpots setup sounds like.. he wants something relatively cheap that can do the job. Can't beat the supercard in that case :) M3 can get expensive (M3Lite + Passcard3 = $100, while he can save $20-30 going with the Supercard bundle)

yup.. that should be it! and if you need a SD card reader you can pick those up for under $5 unless they just throw it in for you :)

You will use the Supercard software that you can download off the official site.. basically that will patch it for you. Once its patched, you can play it on your DS

The main difference is that the M3 has better GBA support than the Supercard, and the Supercard fits a little tighter into the slot than the M3. Other than that though, they're about the same. There's a very small difference in read speed for microSD cards but not enough to warrant a big difference

Also, M3 Lite comes with 2 add'l cases, while the Supercard Lite is only in white (they just released a black one but I don't see it on the getyourgameshere.com site.. I know a few other retailers have them)

your MicroSD card should come with an adapter for SD. if it has the adapter then, yes that card reader will work.
