Guys super big problem here, and in need of some fast answers before I take back a great bargain priced item. Just purchased a Compaq SR192ONX Desktop Computer with a Sonic DVD burner. I use Nero to make all my backup copies on my old machine, but on this one, Nero has yet to make a clean copy of any movie. When the burn is complete and played back, the movies usually freeze up then plays awhile then freezes up again and again. I've noticed on the play side light shaded ring. There never seems to be a solid burned surface. The pattern is a light shaded ring 1/4 of the burn out from start and then it burns solid all the way out. It seems as if there is some conflict here or bad media. So, what do you guys and gals think? I forgot to mention It's a double layer disc writer (LightScribe). Dose this machine only write on double layer disc? Is Sonic the main burner or Lightscribe?. Do I dump Nero 6 or something else need to go? I have no Idea what I'm doing now.
First thing I'd do is try different media. Try Verbatim, or Sony's that are made in Japan. The freezing is usually caused by a reading problem, which is usually a media problem. Are you using sticky back paper labels?
I'm not familiar with the Sonic brand, but I'm sure it doesn't burn only DL discs. It just means that it's capable of it.
Lightscribe isn't a burner. It's a process the burner does, to burn a label onto a lightscribe disc.
I don't think you need to dump Nero. Nero is one of the best.
It might help too, if you copy and paste the Nero burn log here.
any skipping, freezing, or pixelations are mostly due to bad media. If Nero burned your disk and said it was successful and your playback has these problems then it's definately a media problem. Being that you have a Sony burner (which could be a rebaded BenQ) I would use better media. Here is a media guide for you:
Just remember that the Made-In-Japan disks are the best. Verbatim (made in Taiwan/Singapore)are also top notch, Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, Sony are best. Read label and make sure they are MIJ.
Your burner will play DVD-5s (single layer disks) as well as DVD-
9s (double/dual layer disks). It doesn't have to be a LightScribe disk either.
what version of Nero 6 do you have? some versions are buggy.... Use Nero 6.6.0.18, and here's what you do:
also..... what is your burners make and model # ...... make sure you have the latest firmware:
Firmware for your burner as that sets new write strategies for new media thats out..
Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. Every company has its own methods to allow you to do a firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. To find you firmware go to your burner homepage and find the firmware for you make and model.
