Help installing a 2nd hard drive

I recently decided to take my old HD and install it as a 2nd HD on my new PC. I purchased this item hoping to make it work smoothly:

I've connected everything but the PC recognizes nothing. I don't have any CDs or anything with the HD since it was already in my old PC nor did anything come with what I just bought.
Any help/ideas?

get into your bios and make sure there is the HD present. If it is not, then you might not of connected the cables right.
also, what type of HD did you buy and which did you have before?

This is a thread I made previously regarding an issue with the way I was installing the 2nd HD.
I went into the BIOS but all that is recognized is the main pre-installed HD and my DVD burner.

is that hd recognized as slave or master?
make sure that if the new hd is a 3.0 gb/s, change the jumper to make it a 1.5 gb/s
also on your ide hdd, maake sure the jumper is set to CB (cable select)

I would "assume" that the HD that came already with my PC would be set as the master.
Also the drive I'm trying to get working is set to cable select but it's not using the IDE cable. That's the thing I bought. It's supposed to convert it to SATA or something. I'm not familiar at all with the terms but in the previous thread I made someone recommended I get that. So it has this real small cable that's plugged in to a port right next to the one that my current HD is already plugged into. I can take pictueres if needed b/c, again, I don't know the proper terms and such.

so the drive your trying to instal is it IDE (long ribbon cable with lot of pins ), or SATA (skiny cabble with only a little thin strip of metal)
i would assume it would be ide as it came from your "old" computer

the sata drive wont need to master or slave as satas only run one drive per cable. you need to check in the bios to see if the second ide port is enabled. also is that a power conector like on a floppy drive next to the sata port? if so i might need some juice, maybe?
the thing i cant understand is why the newer pc doesnt have sata if your older one did, isnt that a step backwards?

Unplug the main HD thats being recognized... Plug the new one as the main one, if Windows recognizes it you can format it and plug everything back up with the 2 HDs... report back.

Ok here is a picture of the HD I'm trying to install:
I initially had it installed and working when hooked up using the IDE cable but the IDE cable also had my burner connected. I was having speed issues with my burner and someone suggested buying this product to get it off the IDE cable.
So it now has the thin cable.

That is a previous thread I made. I forgot the link in an earlier post.
I went in my BIOS and enable the 2nd SATA connection but it didn't recognize anything when it booted.

Why did you have your hard drive set up with your dvd burner? O_o
You should always stack up your HDDs in a seperate ide cable and cd's and such on a sepparate cable.
it would be way easier to just get another IDE cable as the HDD is an IDE connector

The only way I could use my other HD was if I used the IDE cable. There was two plugs, one in the burner and another free that I could use for the HD. But that's why I bought the converter so I'd have the IDE free for another DVD drive. So basically the HD isn't in anyway connected to the IDE cable.

Here's a couple of pictures I took to get an idea of the cables and such.
I wanna thank everyone already who has given me any advice and such. This site in general has just been amazing as far as helping me with PC issues.
