Should DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.83 take 8 hours to decrypt a DVD (White Lightning)? The movie is over 5 years old, so it can't be encrypted that much.
Any ideas why it takes so long?

I read on another thread someone had a simillar problem and they solved it by defraging their hardrive. Try that and see if that makes it faster.

Thanks borhan9,
It's at 10 hours now, and I don't want to stop it. I'll try another one if it ever finishes.

Hi jmcole
A few more suggestions:
Check the disc too - scratched or smudges ones can slow things way down. Might want to clean it off w/ something non abrasive.
All you drives in DMA and not PIO mode too?

Greetings BlocBusta
Check out this guide for the transfer mode setting for the controller(s):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

Look in 'current transfer mode' too - this should have Ultra DMA & a # listed.

Let's know how that goes.

Ok...guys, My DMA is set. it was set all this time. Tell you something though, I was running windows 98 but i installed win2000 with a 80GB hard drive. I have used 25GB so i know my speeis OK. It must be something eles. Recently i siad that DVDfab was taking an hour and 1/2, now it only 40mins tops and shrink takes still 1hr. 1/2 to recode. Oh by the way i did uninstall and reinstall both ROM drives. For what its worth guys THANKS. Im still learning the GAME.

P.S. Ill keep trying

Hi BlocBusta
How about your pc's other specs - like the amount of memory (ram) and processor?

If you have any quality enhancements or deep analysis (under quality settings tab) checked in Shrink this will also increase the time to encode.

Greetings fellas, I have 130,544 KB Ram. whatever that is in megs or gigs???? YO, binkie7...I will not use the quality enhancements or deep analysis next time i back-up. Ill let you know how it goes. BUT guess what...MY time is getting better by itself. CHeck this out....DVdFAB 40mins top to decrypt, I still 1hr. 2o somthing min for shrink. I now use Nero express it encodes and burns at the SAME time in 1 hour. THATS great considering my situation here.

Hey BlocBusta
Well you ram is 128 mbs - may want to bump that up to 512 mb if you can or at the least 256 mb. One reason Shrink is taking so long.
You might not have any of the quality enhancements or deep analysis checked. Would probably be taking longer.

Keep up on the regualr maintenance bit on the pc 2 - virus/spyware scans, disc cleanup, system defrag.

How big is your CPU that's really where the the speed is at, memory will help but if your CPU is small it will still be slow and thats what burns up DVDR drives slower the burn the faster the drive burns up

DVAFAB Decrypter shouldn't take any longer than 13 - 25 minutes to rip any dvds/movies. If it's more than 35 min - 1 hr, then it is likely the disc/dvd is badly scratched.

My old P4, 2.66GHz, 1GB RAM can rip any movies/dvds within 12 - 20 minutes (depending on how big/long is the movie) using DVDFAB Decrypter. According to my experiences with DVDFAB Decrypter, I've never encountered any movies/dvds that has ripped beyond 30 minutes. Perhaps, I'm the few that never experienced any issues using DVDFAB.

NOTE: keep in mind to always "defrag" your hard drive twice a week, end or release more RAM if you can in prior to the ripping process. End or shut down other unnecessary running programs before ripping.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Hey BlocBusta
What's the processor specs?

Could be the movies you are doing - how big are they? Smaller ones = less time. Scratched/dirty? Fingerprints can slow it down or cause an error ripping.

Did you add 256mb to the 128mb? How about a defrag - do that very recently?

The text caption - you mean subtitles? Turn them off with the remote.

Now the pc acting like a female well I could say the same about males :0)

You tell em, Binkie! I'm with you! hahahahahaha Can't argue with a Female on a Male issue! hahahahahahaha

You are below the minimum with RAM... you will continue to have problems untill you upgrade your RAM...... and your computer must be old too. So, even if you upgrade your RAM you still might run into problems with ripping and burning times! What's your computer specs, make and model of your burner?

that pentium 3 is going to take a good chunk of time to do anything with dvds...and you need to at least double that 256 mb of ram.

you can use Decrypter to copy ps2 games, but only the dvd ps2 games. before you get into backing up games, lets get your pc up to snuff on dvd movies.

Yeah guys, I was told by the computer Doc @ compu-teks that a 512RAM stick is not compatible with my computer. It will fit the motherboard but it wont reconize the stick, it gave a "MEMORY ERROR message in the operating room this pass week-end.

you don't need a single stick of 512. two sticks of 256 or even 4 of 128 (if your mobo has that many ram slots). it's best if all sticks of ram are identical and aren't too fast for your rig (i.e., pc2700, pc2100, etc). nevertheless, without more ram, you're never going to have any better performance, lest you switch to a new rig or rebuild yours.
