DVD+R Trouble

Over the past month I have started to burn DVD movies. I have had no problem, but not I cannot burn any DVD. Before I put in a blank DVD+R into my Phillips DVD+-RW DVD8701 drive, it identifies itself as DVD+RW. But when I put in a blank DVD+R, it calls itself CD Drive, and it doesnt even recognize that there is a disk in there. If I put in a CD+R into it it will recognize that and let me burn on to it. If anyone could help with this, much appreciated. It's very frustrating.

The changing of the dvd when a blank is input is ok.
Is this a Dell pc? Can't find any newer firmware for it.
What brand of media are you using? Maybe part of the problem.
What are you trying to burn and with what program(s)?

That part, don't worry.
I have 2 NEC burners, and I get that too.
Now sure exactly when, after burning, before, etc... but I do see it and I totaly ignore it.
That's windows being silly :)
*BUT* the fact that you can't burn a DVD(R)(RW) that is wrong.
Post us a burn log when trying to burn such media.

It is a Dell. I use Verbatim DVD+R. I only buy them in packs of ten, and I've cracked open 3 different pack, and still the same problem. For my usuall burning I use WinAVI. Im burning VOB anf IFO file, same as a regular DVD movie.

Ok Verbs are usually very good stuff and w/ a high compatability on the majority of burners.
Is this the only DVD's that give you a problem? Try and others & have success?
What happens when you go to burn thru WinAVI? Any error message?

When I burn them, there is no error message from WinAVI. It says all tasks have been completed, or whatever. I've also tried Memorex DVD+R's too.

Ok I'm just a bit confused :)
So WinAVI does it thing (trancodes/burns) then what happens? The disc can't be played in the pc or a standalone?

WinAVI does everything, no error. But after I try to play it in my PC or DVD player, It displays as an blank unwritable DVD. If I try to open it even before I burn it windows tells me it is a blank unwirtable DVD.

You mean before burn the WMP said the disc is broken? If this,you may try other disc.By the way,when do the burn with winavi,you need to select VIDEO_TS for burn.

I have burnt with WinAVI before. And its not just the DVD. I've tried several of different brands too.
