USB/ USB2 Driver Issues? - Wireless Network Adapters - Not Recognized - Help!

Hello all,

eMachine 550 (Original MOBO x1 USB port)

I have been performing fresh installs of Windows XP Pro for years on this PC with no troubles. Now, I am experiencing driver issues with USB/ USB2 - I am trying to connect a Wireless-G network adapter via USB but my system doesn't recognize the device anymore.

Up till these last two installs (yeterday and Wednesday) I have never had any issues. Yes, I am using the same exact hardware, wireless device, and OS. The only difference is... Since Microsoft started windows authentication; I had to download and use the Service Pack 2 software from a third party download site. Don't remember which site, but did not experience any anomalies during installation/ update and I received successful update indicators.

Does anybody out there know what I am doing wrong and/ or what has changed?

Last Installation Procedure:

Low level format - wrote zeros
Fresh format/ install - Windows XP Pro
Install - Service Pack 2
Test 1 = Linksys Wireless-G [USB NA] = "USB Device Not Recognized"
Test 2 = Airlink 101 [USB2 NA] = "This Device Can Perform Faster"

Further info for USB2/ Test 2 - Dialog Box "Hi-Speed USB Device Attached To Non-Hi-Speed Hub" & Device Manager "?USB2.0 WLAN"

Yeah, like I said...

I have used this very same device (Linksys Wireless-G Network Adapter - USB) with this same motherboard and OS for more than a year with no problems. Now I am getting a "USB Device Not Recognized" indicator.

Yeah, I think you may be on to something there...

Update: I was able to get my Airlink 101 to work just minutes ago, not sure how though. I was messing around within Device Manger, un-installing/ installing drivers and changing various settings.

Connectio seems stable with (very good) connection at about 15 to 20 yards away, but must reset the adapter manually on startup/ reboot.
Probably due to signal strength. Historically, my Linksys network adapters have had better range.

Thank for you the input...

Regards,
Marc
