Ok, my ONLY HD ran out of space. I have one WD 160GB that I partitioned as follows:
C: 15GB all MS Win
D: 145GB running all Programs
With all the MS updates, my C: ran out and I got 2GB left.
So I'll be shopping for additional HD.
What is a good set up after I make my fresh install of XP? Besides the obvious, I won't be partitioning it anymore.

Well for me I got 2 hard drives both seagates. one internal and one external.
1. 40gig Seagate internal hard drive primary drive.
All programs and system files are stored on this drive.
2. 120gig Seagate External Hard drive.
I just store anything i save e.g program setup files, music, videos and things like that.
All together I have 160gig to play with and i also have a wireless network and 2 other computers to play with. The other pc has a 120gig seagate drive and the lappy has a 40gig drive soo all together I have:
320gigs over my network.
If you want to get another drive think about how much u will need and which drive u want as the primary drive.

well for me i got 2 80Gb internal HDDs I got 50Gb partitioned just for my OS and all its programs, I would reccomend that on your HDD u are using for ur OS to try and have as much space free as u can as the PC will run better with more free space.
The rest of the 30Gb i use for music and pics
And my other 80Gb i use that only for movies

is there any real advantage to having the OS on it's own partition?
i just have one 80 gig HD and have only one partition.. i have a spare 20 gig that i was thinking about installing to use for DVD work only ( the DVD i am producing not back ups) as i've got 2 years worth of footage ripped for editing later on down teh road when i go into full production of teh DVD i'm making..and have already lost at least 15 hours of footage from a crash that happened a few months ago

having the OS on it's own partition allows for quicker boots, easier maintenence, and usually saving your data quite easily if windows decides to commit suicide.
however, this isn't a cure-all. you should still regularly back up your data to a separate hard drive (in case yours dies), as well as burn the vital stuff to disc.

It would help if you told us which interface you're using and have available. Newegg.com has a western digital SATA II 250gB HDD for us$68

i've got 2 hdd's,one 80gb and one 200gb,but i'm looking into changing my primary one for a 150gb 10000rpm seagate,once i get the cash

I have a 250GB WD no partition with XP and a 320GB SG 250/50 partition running Vista RC1/5326?. Need to clean the second one up and have a backup HDD with a Vista partition.
