you can watch mp4 files on any version of the psp. Try connecting the psp before you start psp video 9. If it still doesnt work then there is option of copying the file urself to the psp.

V1.50 only plays Mpeg4-SP on its native player, to play Mpeg4-AVC you need PMPMOD AVC which is a homebrew app by Jonny of DOOM9 and plays 480x272 res AVC movies on your V1.50, which i highly recommend you try.
PSPvideo9 has a bug in it somewhere if your using it to transfer your movies, in my guide i told people to manually create a path for PSPvideo9 to place there encoded movies, then use either drag an drop or copy folder to, to transfer the movies to their PSP,s.

V 2.81 is completely different.
Movies are no longer restricted to certain file names, and headers, and they must be placed in a folder called VIDEO which is found inside the PSP folder.
The problem you are having is this: Your movies which are encoded with PSPvideo9 are either M4Vxxxxx.MP4 or MAQxxxxx.MP4, now to play these on your V2.81 you must create a folder called MP_ROOT in the ROOT of your MS (first screen that you see when you connect your PSP) within this folder create another two folders called 100MNV01 and 100ANV01 .

Following applies:
MP_ROOT/100MNV01/M4Vxxxxx.MP4
MP_ROOT/100ANV01/MAQxxxxx.MP4

When you go on your memry stick is there two folders named VIDEO and MP_ROOT?

If so, Just drag your .MP4 file in the VIDEO folder and you don't have to rename them (M4V*****)..

If you only have the MP_ROOT folder then convert your video with

PSPvideo9

OR

3GP Converter..

Then when you have converted it to MP4 then throw the MP4 to the 100MVN01..

Enjoy!

im here.

Did you name the folder all in caps?
like this: MP_ROOT/100MNV01,100ANV01
