ok, someone in my house installed ethereal to monitor how the internet was being used. I know ethereal will show that I'm using torrents, and was wondering if theres a way to mask my downloading or something.
thanks

Hi,
Depending on what torrent client you are using, we can actually "mask" what your downloading/uploading.
Encrypting streams will make it hard for whatever internet monitor you have installed to detect the BT traffic.
Protocol obfuscation methods like message stream encryption and protocol encryption are implemented in Azureus, ”Torrent, BitComet, KTorrent and Mainline.
So tell me what you use and I'll tell you what to do :-)

Hey mediabob,
I did some research on ethereal, its a rather advanced protocol analyser.
Read my guide here:
...:::::*rav009's Bit Torrent Safety & Privacy Guide*:::::...(NEW!!)
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/395674
Enabling RC4 encryption will make it very hard for the protocol analyser to detect the fact that its BT traffic, it should work.
Have a read and tell me if it works, I've never worked with ethereal so I can't say for sure whether it can detect BT traffic after we've enabled RC4 encryption.
Cheers.

The problem is that ethereal will see what program it is that's sending and receiving the data, even if encrypted.
There is no way to prevent that*other than wrecking ethereal*, but encryption will ensure they don't see what Azureus is sending and receiving.

It will still see that activity, and no, ethereal will be able to capture it, as it should be multi-protocol equipped.

DAAAAAAAAAAAMN IT, thanks for answering, also the program has to be running for it to capture right? like it doesnt work secretly always in the background. if it doesnt i can just use torrents at night
