PCI or PCIe-x16

newegg.com , 7600GT , us$115 after rebate, wins, enjoy.

When evolution selects its agents, it does so at a cost, makes demands in exchange for singularity, and you may be asked to do something against your very nature. This force, evolution, is not sentimental. Like the Earth itself, it knows only the hard facts of life's struggle with death. All you can do is hope and trust that when you have served its needs faithfully, there may still remain some glimmer of the life you once knew.

PCI, really? Wow.. *thinks*

note: "Reference card" just means that the card is manufactured to the chipmaker's specifications, while "Factory overclocked" means that the card has been pre-overclocked. (thus, negating need to OC the card later on for performance boosts)

PCIe-x16: 7600GT

Factory overclocked @ us$115 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143049

Reference card @ us$110 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130054

PCI: ATi x1300

Reference card @ us$115 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814129062

Lovely setup, abcd^2. Are you OC'ing the 175?

Hi guys! I have a question specific for Jallan if you don't mind - I just bought a Dell Gx240, and I'm singularly unimpressed with the supplied ATI 16Mbs graphics card! Unfortunately it's a low profile AGPx4 card. I'd HOPED to be able to get a nVidia card of some sort, just because I've used them before and have had very clean images from them. But I can't seem to find anything that's AGPx4 and low profile! You use a Visiontek 9600xt? Can't find one of them, either! Do you know if it's the same as an ATI 9600xt? The spec sounds probable, but there's no mention of it being low profile. Can you help me in my search for a better (though not necessarily spectacular) replacement card? (I also worry that the ATI card recommends a 300 watt power supply - I think the power supply in the Dell is only 180 watts or so. What do you think?) Sorry to have prattled on so ... John

Johnb1522 , with a 180 PS you going to have to be very careful with what you get, thats just not a big enough PS to play that many games. think Custom Built next time. not a box system. watch you temps gaming with that system

Thanks Aabbcc, - Of course you're right! I broke all my own rules buying this. LAST time I built my own - big box, chosen components, and it lasted about 6 years before I could no longer upgrade it further. This time I got impatient and walked into a 2nd hand shop ... Still, I'd be very interested to hear Jallan's solution!

PCI, or PCI express?
If PCI express, the BFG 7600GT from newegg is the best value, but there are cheaper, although for Battlefield 2, I'd recommend sticking to that 7600. If it has to be PCI, then are your other components up to scratch? If you don't even have an AGP socket chances are it's an old processor, and BF2 is going to be a bit slow!

That's interesting. As far as I can see the BFG is still the cheapest at newegg.
