I wasn't sure if this belonged in the Video section or hardware section.
Well, I've been Video encoding for quite some time now using TMPGEnc Xpress 3. I would like to transfer all my old VHSs that I've got to DVD.
Since video encoding and video authoring is very time consuming, I was thinking of having a computer for one purpose only - To encode videos.
I'm thinking of buying a new computer and using my current computer as a "video encoding" computer.
My computer's specifications are as follows:
It's a Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz.
It's got 768 MB RAM
the video card is NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X (I think)
I would like to know the difference between a video card and a graphics card and would I need to buy a graphics card?
Also, I would like to know if there are any risks in leaving the computer to encode large amounts of videos non-stop. Would the PC require a better fan to cool it down?
Any suggestions and recommendations would be greatly appreciated,
I'm not sure how many fans or the locations of them. I haven't added or upgraded the fan since I first bought the computer, so I guess replacing it with a new one would be a start.
And also how many fans can fit on a computer?
Are there any other risks that I haven't mentioned about video encoding for long periods of time without having breaks?
If there are, could you please mention them and suggest possible recommendations.
I am assuming on the facts that you gave me it it dell, hp or something on that line. Which means is small, and only 2 fans at most. 1 on the processor, and one on the power supply. The biggest upgrade you will need for video encoding is a new case that is bigger and can add more fans. I also do video encoding and one tool that have found to be useful is a temperature gauge. I have this one(see below) It as four temperature sources. I put one and the processor, one on the harddrive, one on the power supply, and one on a 120mm fan. It also has the capabilites to control four fans. With the fan master controling your fans you can set the speed for each individual fan to correspond with where the hittest temperature is. These two upgrades like this will really make the already nice computer to an encoding son of a gun.
Thanks for the advice!
I'm now planning on getting a new Bigger case and add more fans.
And I'm also thinking of getting the Fan Master, they're not that expensive. :)
elokito,
Are u serious?! Now that's Fast!
Btw, thank you for the suggestion but I think I'm goin' to try an inexpensive method first. ;)
yeah im serious maybe less a friend of mine has one and recoding a dvd on Nero from 7gb to 4.3gb took him 5min and 13 sec and on my pc with pentium d its 11min
