Im a cheap as they come, and fought having to buy AnyDVD for a year. Best damn program I ever paid for, and I regret not having listened to everyone here so much sooner. Been using it now for about a year and would recommend it to anyone.

Take DVD43 off the list and you've almost got a good complete list of freeware...you need to add FixVTS, DVDFab Decrypter and RipIt4Me. DVDFab + VobBlanker is just as effective as any but RipIt4Me incorporates all the necessary programs making it a no-brainer. Some prefer AnyDVD because it is so easy and they don't mind paying for it.

What's wrong with DVD43? With it, I can skip the step of copying the entire movie directly to the hard drive. I just load DVD43 and then Point Vob Blanker directly to the D:\ I select the parts of the movie I want and just like that it's done. I don't have to wait to copy the entire movie to the hard drive first and then select the parts I like.

AnyDVD just integrates with almost any dvd related programs i use it with Nero recode to convert my dvds for my video ipod and i use it in combination with dvdshrink

IMHO.whats smarter, a process that you only have to do 1 thing to, or use a bunch of processes to get the same result as AnyDVD???? work smarter not harder....granted i have all those free program,and use them too...but for what it does and is capable to do,AnyDVD is by far the best,even if i did pay for it....

one can't forget the additional features AnyDVD provides; it disables copy protection on cds as well (remember sony's pc-crippling xcp protection?), it provides drive controls, can control other media programs, and is capable of helping in a variety of other situations.

So far I have ripped over 100 DVDs with DVD43. Occasionally I have to use DVD Decrypter for bad sectors on some DVDs. The majority of the time, however, DVD43 works just fine. Plus it saves me time versus using DVD Decrypter.

i always, and i mean always, rip to the hard drive first and even i admit that AnyDVD is a great program to have. i bought it about a year ago and although i don't really use it much, it is good to have it available, just in case. why i don't use it much? because of the advent of the great " ripit4me".
Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.
