Processors are good you got power there, but dont forget portability you dont want a laptop battery to die out quickly more power consumes battery life.

hey people thanks for all your recommendations.i asked sammorris and he still said a core duo 2ghz 2gb ram is still faster than a core 2 duo 1.83ghz 1gb ram.so ill stick with the hp plus it has alot of nice features such as bluetooth and built in tv tuner.

well you said you'd be running it off the mains all the time so imagine you won't be clunking it round the house. it'd build up your muscles if you are gonna cart it around

indeed, my laptop spends quite a bit of time on my lap and i may have knocked the power lead connector a few too many times (must be a little loose), laptop switched off twice on me this weekend, battery hasn't much life in it so i'm at the mercy of the power supply. and in typical fashion it turned off while i was eBaying for a second power suppply. Soon the battery will be useless so i thought i'd get a second supply as the current supply heats up so hot you can't hold it. have to always hang the power supply over a small fan for the whole time i'm using the laptop to stop power supply going up in smoke. maybe it's due to the battery being almost lifeless; but it's the price i paid in buying a laptop, luckily i have a choice of desktops too :)
