Here's the log file, I can't figure this out. I updated the firmware, uninstalled and installed the drive. (NEC ND-6500A) Tried Sony, Ritek and now FujiFilm. All of the media I've tried was 16x media and everyone started burning at 2.4x....pain in the aaaaaa$$.

I've even tried burning it at 1x and no dice. Any help would be greatly appreciated =)

I am not real good at reading logs. But, I did notice that your DMA is "ON" and this is good. Try updating your Nero to 6.6.0.18 - I have heard that this is a good version, others in the 6 series have been noted as "buggy".

Hello.

Yes, version 6.6.1.4 pretty much sucks. Uninstall Nero and then run the Nero 6 Clean Tool, writing down your serial number before doing so.

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html

Version 6.6.0.18 can be downloaded here:

Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Ner....0.18_no_yt.exe
Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

If you want, you can reset your burner and communication channels. Soemtimes that helps as well.

Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
Click the Hardware tab.
Click the Device Manager button.
Click the "+" beside DVD/CD-ROM Drives.
Right click on the name of your DVD burner and select Uninstall.
Click OK.

Still in Device Manager:

Click the "+" beside IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
Right click on the Primary Channel and select Uninstall.
Click OK.
Right click on the Secondary Channel and select Uninstall.
Click OK.
Restart the system.

I'd also try a different media. My NEC laptop burner dislikes Ritek media. Try some Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or Made in Japan labeled Fuji or Sony media. You might even try +R instead of -R media.

You might also try burning with ImgBurn, a free program.

Let us know how you make out.

I've tried all of that stuff before except the different Nero version. I had an old version of Nero that worked fine, then randomly started sucking.

So I upgraded to the 18 ver and it still blew, although Im encoding a AVI right now and it seems like it might work. Ill let you know when its finished.

Thanks for the input.

I have the same problem with some "Benq 16x DVD-R with <Picfect>" DVDs. I don`t mind the low speed, what bugs me is the fact that I can`t write the disc at any speed (Illegal Disk). Other DVDs (TDK DVD-R 1-16x) worked fine.

Here-s the log from a(or any) Benq disc:

Hi.

A few things.

The version of Nero you're using is not a very good one. I'd suggest uninstalling your current version and then running the Nero 7 Clean Tool. Next, download and install version 7.0.8.2 which is halfway decent. Be sure to write down your Nero serial number before running the Clean Tool.

This is not very good quality media. Use Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Made in Japan labeled Fuji and Somy media. Laptop burners are more finicky about media than desktop burners and are also more fragile and less forgiving in my experience.

The above is a Roxio driver that in some cases can conflict with Nero. It is generally a good idea to use either Roxio or Nero software, but not both on the same system. If you're going to run Nero software, uninstall any Roxio software like Easy Media Creator and run the Roxio Zapper. Run the Zapper even if you don't have any Roxio software installed as other programs sometimes install this driver without your knowledge.

I tried Sony and FujiFilm with no luck, just bought some Verbatim +R discs and it burned fine at 8x. So all that trouble for some shitty discs. C'est la vie. Thanks for the help.
