I am using ULEAD DVD Movie factory to attempt to convert movies that are encoded in DivX to DVD. The original DivX file is in 16x9 widescreen format, but the program converts it to 4x3. I checked advanced settings and the option to maintain aspect ratio is greyed out. Any Suggestions? Is there another program that will allow me to convert DivX to MPEG and ultimately to VOB files to put on DVD? Please help.

You can convert DivX to Mpeg using TMPGEnc. Then you use TMPGEnc DVD Author (a diffrent program) to convert the Mpeg2 file to DVD Compliant. You can then compress it if neded with DVD Shrink and burn to DVD using burning software, making sure it is in a VIDEO_TS file and burned as a data disc.

another good progam that can do that for you is blaze media pro I find that it is faster and you get better results with it than you do with TMPGEnc.

Right Now your just encodeing video...When you take the next step which is Authoring your finished video youll find that most authoring programs change the width/height format again!!!..I gave up on transfering divx to DVD cause im into quality and there is no way your going to get your divx/xvid video to DVD quality...It just dont work that way, as a matter of fact it'll probably look 10% to 20% worse than what you started off with. Remember your TV's resolution is 800x600 I think maybe less.. compared to your monitor which is infact basicly an HDTV. Any ways geting back to my point, it is well worth backing movies up from the original DVD...Even if you had a decent video capture card To pull a movie from VHS, that would even be better than what your trying to acomplish.

I agree with t2k the loss in quality will be terrible but in some cases inevitable

Actually I used ArcSoft Showbiz to convert the DivX file to mpeg2 740x480. The only filter I had to use was a vertical flip since for some reason the video was imported upside down. Once that was converted to MP, I used ULEAD DVD Movie factory to covert it to the VOB files and it turned out rather well. The only glitches were caused from where I used a video fix program to fix frame lock ups. Thanks for all your help though.
