I downloaded the program without problem, but the installation assistant asks for a series number and without it, the "install" button is greyed out. I am embarrassed to post such a stupid question, but I really do not know what to do next.

You'll need to purchase the program to get one. Asking for or giving serials is against the rules here(and most forums).

If you're going to be backing up DVDs, InCD is the last thing you need to put on your pc!JM2C

Perhaps I have got this all wrong. I came across Synchronizer, decided it might be a better way to do my backups, was told I needed InCD, through Google found several suppliers, one of which offered a 30 day free trial, downloaded the program and was never asked for payment, tried to install and was asked for a serial number. That is what started all this. Now, giving up Backup MyPc for this - paying $50 - is it all worth it? I sure do not like the abuse I have been getting so far....

Don't take it so personal. Read up on the forum rules. What exactly do you want to do with your pc, back up DVDs? If so, I can give you a list of free stuff and a list of pay stuff. You do NOT want to put Incd on your pc!. Let us know what you are trying to do. In the mean time go to this page and look at the guides and the free software therein. These are for backing up DVDs. Post back and give us the info we need to help you.

It looks as if I am on the wrong track. As I said, I am not very happy with my (rather old) Backup MyPC which I use on a daily basis to back up My Documents and a few other files. I saw a description of Synchronizer on GoodSync which I thought might do the trick, i.e. synchronize my files between the computer and a CD. When I tried to use it, I ran into a problem so I contacted the supplier, who told me to get UDF software, such as InCD. I found a supplier, downloaded without any questions being asked, then tried to install and the problems started. From what you tell me, I gather I should drop the whole idea. I am not doing anything with DVDs, except sometimes watching a movie. Thanks for your taking the time to set a computer illiterate straight.

I'm not sure I can help then, I back up all my stuff to external and internal extra HDDs.I do use EZCD drag and drop (similar to InCD). Have you just tried to drag a file over to your RW drive and copy it there? I don't know if that'll work since I know it will on my pc but I have "DandD." Somebody will come along and answer your question. Sorry I can't help better.

Thanks anyway. Guess I will stick to my old system a while longer. And you must have your reasons for advising me not to install InCD, so I will listen. Over and out.

If you're not going to backup DVDs then by all means install InCD if you need it to run the program you listed. It won't blow up your pc! LOL InCD just conflicts with programs used to backup DVDs.
