Hi,
I have recently upgraded my broadband to 8meg and I have a wireless router. But I haven't openen any ports or forwarded them to my router. What speeds should I be getting even though this hasn't been done?

Right now I'm getting 70kb on a very well seeded torrent.

I can't tell you what download speed you should achieve but on a 2.5 Mb dsl connection where I receive 2.1 Mb, my speeds are as high as 250 kb so you can figure it out. Various factors may influence your speed; dsl or cable and time of day, distance from a tranfer station, number of seeds and peers. Here is a good site for checking your speed in case you're interested: http://speedtest.net/

Thanks for your reply,I can't connect my ethernet to my computer as my router is downstairs an dmy computer is upstairs.

I did this test and it says my download is 3600kbs and my upload is 350kbs,that can't be true!

It can be true if you have cable as many people are sharing the same bandwidth. It's Saturday and a lot of people on your connection (kids) may be online. Cable speeds usually drop on weekends and after school. That is low but may be correct, check again later. That test uses the Speakeasy connections available elsewhere and is usually pretty accurate. You can try this one to compare the 2 at various times: http://www.internetfrog.com/mypc/speedtest/ and there is 1 at broadband reports.com that uses Speakeasy, I believe.

also, u said ur using wireless internet, try hooking ur comp directly to the router with a cable. Landlines have and will always be faster than wireless.
