So, let me start off by saying that on my PC there are 4 accounts, me, my mom, my dad, and my sister. Sometimes when I log off my mom or my dad's account, instead of going back to the screen with all the accounts, the screen would black out and a message would appear that says there is no signal. I've tried all I can to get back to the account screen from the blacked out screen but the only solution so far is restarting the computer. So how in the world do I solve this problem?
Note: This happens ONLY when I log off my mom or my dad's account, never mine.

sounds like the video resolution has been set too high for the monitor ?

When he logs off? I'm not sure. It could happen if he logs on and the resolution is set too high, but off? All I can suggest is try booting in VGA mode (should be accessible from the safe mode menu) and setting all the accounts to the resolution of the monitor.

yer i was grasping, that was the best i could think of, even though it didn't quite sound like the culprit it sort of sounded feasible

Yeah, definitely. LOL i once set my screen res to 1600x1200 on a 1280x1024 monitor by accident (I was 11 at the time) and this was back in the days before VGA mode. Stupidly I pressed enter to try and get rid of the "out of range" screen, OKing the resolution. Happy days! I never thought to ask how that was solved.

re-reading the original post 'no signal' suggests the monitor has lost connection with the PC/graphics card, 'blacked out screen' seems to suggest the same. it's almost like the PC is in standby mode or something ?

Yeah that's what I thought. Does the power LED flash or is the PC still running?

if you turn the vdu off and on again after a couple of seconds does it pick up the signal, or is it still blank?

When it blacks out, the computer is still on. And the power LED turns from green to orange. Oh and what do you mean by VDU?

Wait, nvm. VDU=Monitor, I get it now. Oh and turning it off and on doesn't do anything.
