hey everyone well i own 2 dell xps gen 300 , both running up do date AnyDVD n clonedvd2 , one of my dell xps gen 300 * which turns up to be the more powerful based on pc specs* is making hell with me and so i thought it was pc but it turns out its also my dvd drive afer owning a i/o magic *which is been the beset drive * for a while its actually doesnt want to read DVD-R dvds and says to me that they are blank then i put them on a home dvd player or another dvd drive and reconises it , so i guess its a bad drive ....
the lower specs xps gen 300 has a i/o magic ( a bit older ) and works fine and a bit better but this is due to the bad xps... ( yes i down reisntals wipe outs so its not virus/spyware) so since i have warranty dell is sending me the new top of the line xps 700 ...

Benq 1650/1655
NEC 3550a
Pioneer 111
Lite-On SHW-160H6S or P6S
Plextor 716 or 760
The Lite-Ons and Plextors bitset DVD+R single-layer right out of the box. The Benq needs a utility to set it to do so. The NEC and Pioneer need a hacked firmware to do so but are awesome drives. All will bitset +R double-layer though you obviously aren't worried about that. The Plextors may be rebadged Benqs and are typically 2-4 times the price, but the one advantage they do have is that some models use a SATA connection (model number ending in S instad of A). That may provide a hair faster reading performance than you are getting now, but remember there is a huge difference in price. Best Buy may have them on sale.
-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.
No, I don't think so. Get them online. The NEC is available right now for $20 after rebate at Tigerdirect.com. Mwave.com has a good selection and prices. Chiefvalue and Newegg might also carry the Benqs from time to time though I think the remaining supply has really dried up.

Crazy.... I really don't like my 1650. I get better scans from my older Plextor 740 (yes I know it's a Benq), and much better scans from my Pioneer 110D. Not to mention I don't have to worry about having to disable that annoying WOPC every time I reboot. Talk about a worthless feature. Anyway, I've always gotten the best results from my Pioneers (109 & 110). If I were to get anothere DVD RW, it would be the 111.
