I have been backing up my movies for years (over 400 titles), and so far this is the only one I have not been able to rip. I have tried it running the latest Slysoft AnyDVD (6.0.7.0) with DVDShrink, also I have tried the latest DVDFab Decrypter.

With DVDShrink I am able to load the movie into the software, choose what I want, but it stops after a few minutes of encoding with a cyclic redundancy error.

With DVDFab it stops after a few minutes with a disk read error.

The dvd is literally brand new (no visible scratches), and it seems to play ok by itself. Any ideas?? I have seen rips available online, so I know it's possible, I'm just wondering if anyone else had the same problem or if I have a bad original disk.

Hi clamfood
You may have a bad press.
Have you tried the ripper in AnyDVD?

Another option is use RipIt4Me (all free) - uses decrypter to rip which imho is the best one for 'bad' discs. Turn off AnyDVD when using RipIt4Me.
RipIt4Me guide & dl's
If you have another drive you can rip from try that one - some are better than others.
If all that fails then looks like you should exchange it for a new one.

Hi Binkie, thanks for the reply.

I'll give that software a try, but I think you're right about the bad press. After trying a regular playback of the dvd again, I found that the spot at which it stops in the ripping also causes a minor freeze in playback. It stopped completely on my DVD drive, but it powered through the pause with a small stutter on my regular DVD player.

The odd thing is I returned the dvd and got another one, but this new one had the exact same problem about one minute earlier in the movie. I guess they got a bad shipment of them and I may have to go to an entirely different store.

You're welcome clamfood :)
Yep it definitely looks like you got a bad then another. So going to exchange it a different store location that probably got a better shipment may be your best bet.

Tell DVD Decrypter to ignore read errors and set the read error retries to 0. You will end up with faulty data in the spot with the error but at least it will rip.

@id3372...... why have errors when you can use PSL files to correct the errors that you'll get because DVDDecrypter is not updated anymore to do the newer DVDs! That's why I love RipIt4Me.... it sets up PSL files to help DVDDecrypter rip the DVD properly! way cool..... and DVDDecrypter is still the king of the rippers! Just follow the guide that Binkie already gave in her reply!
