Can you get caught if you rip a dvd and return it back to the store?

Hello people,
I bought a DVD from this online company but i don't like it for some reason, but at the same time i wouldn't mind burning it for a refference. Called the company and they said that they would exchange it for some other DVD. Now, my question is, Can they find out if i burned the DVD or not???
I would appreciate any comments on my concern. Thanks

for starters that is illegal to do,and is not condoned here at AD....but to answer your question. No that cant tell other than you opening the disc if it had sme kind of plastic wrapping around it

Thanks for your answer. I have someone told me that they have some tracking device to check whether it is being copied or not.

I really don't think that is going to happen. I have a DVDRecorder which is used to replace our VCR, nothing illegal about that. Back up my harddrive, files, etc. to DVD's, I have a legitimate reason to do so. Weddings, Christmas, birthdays, photos, the list goes on. That is most likely a spoof, I've seen it happen before on AD.

I'm surprise the company let you return. Due to "copyright", legally they have to replace with the SAME title. This goes for games, etc. Only under certain circumstances can one return.

Yeah, the company have a one time policy for unsatisfied customers, we are talking about a teaching vidoes. So i should be ok according to what i have been reading above. I know it is illegal, but i really want to get something better that the one that i have ordered.
I never done this before, so my question is, would my Sonic burner that came in with my computer is capable to get the job done???

hehe, i once did that actually. i returned a movie to the store with a blank dvd along with the movie in the case.
they said nothing, i said nothing, and life went on

Most stores do not allow returns for opened DVDs, games, etc. That is nearly EVERY STORE in the US. Kind of annoying if you legitimately do not like a movie and want your money back. :(

If you don't like a movie you should be stuck with it for buying it. Next time check the online reviews.
That said... Costco lets you return open movies.

Netflix will let you return your movies, but you have to pay a monthly fee.
