-ok, i've tried everything, but nothing works. here's how i do everything.
(if i rip a game, i use DVD Decrypter)
1. i burn the iso file to a sony DVD+R with alcohol's image burner at 4x. (i have also tried the mds file)
2. i load up my swap magic 3.6
3. when it gives me the "load program" screen, i switch the discs and press x
4. i wait for about 30 sec, and get "not a valid ps2 disc"
-i also tried cd loader 7, but i just get "error reading disc"
i have a version 14 ps2 slim, with the ultimate swap combo.
is there something i'm doing wrong??
also, step by step instructions would be nice.

Is it a dvd game? You might also have to booktype the DVD+R, depending on you burner. What burner do you have? If your burner can't I would suggest dvd-r's.

what does booktype mean?
my burner is a phillips dvd+r/dvd-r dvd8801.

Make sure your dvd can booktype when using DVD+R because when you burn it you have to convert the booktype to dvd-rom that way your ps2 can read it because all ps2 dvd games are in dvd-rom format. If your dvd burner cant booktype dont worry just use DVD-R they dont need to be booktype. Make sure your using the right swap magic disc to boot there is 2 one is a dvd boot disc and the other is cd boot disc use the dvd boot disc on your burned games that are on a dvd and the cd boot disc for burned games on cds. Also before burning a game see if there are any special steps you have to do before you burn the games some require patchs to make them work. Here are a few links to guides on burning ps2 games.

booktype is when you let the burner know what type of format you want it to burn. so you would burner it as a dvd-rom that way to would be recognized by the ps2. So use dvd decryptor and there will be a litle book on the bottom right hand corner click on that and you would find your burner, select your burner and also select dvd-rom and burn at half the speed of your disc.

Your dvd burner (phillips dvd+r/dvd-r dvd8801) im 99.99% positive it doesnt offer you to booktype DVD+R so your best bet would be to use DVD-R.

thanks, but i've got another question. how do i booktype, cause my roomate has an nec burner. so we're gonna try burning the games on his.

The book icon in the bottom right corner of DVDecrypter.
Be much easier using DVD-R. They don't need booktyped & all PS2's can read them. Some PS2's dont like +R.

ok, i tried bookmarking them, and no success. is there any chance that there's something wrong with swap magic? when i try to load the game (black) with swap magic, black spins real slow, and i can't see the laser. (i have the ps2's cover off)
what about the usb mods? do those work well?
