Hi,

I am having a heck of a time, I am able to burn dvd's, cd's but not DVD+RW. I have tried two different discs, I've tried Nero, Roxio and a couple free burning packages and I can't get it to work.

I also updated the firmware and the only thing that changed is that it now saw it could burn the disc at x4 instead of x2. I have the LG GSA-4160B

Please help, below is the log file from Nero 7

Hi anewfound
Here's some suggestions:
Quote:
CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-STDVDRAM GSA-4160BA306 JRAID Port 4 ID 0 DMA: Off

Check to make sure DMA is on for the burner. Nero doesn't always show DMA correctly w/ raid connections. Here's a guide:
dma guide
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer ID: DAXON,

Not great ones here. Try verbatim or made in japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.
Quote:
Formatting disc failed

Do a full erase of the disc. If this fails try an RW that hasn't been written to yet.

Try those and keep us posted!

hey! thanks for responding.. I went through the DMA thing and everything seems okay, except check out my screens here.

Here is what shows up.

So both on the Primary and Secondary in the first listing it shows this

Then on the second version of it, it shows it with the Ultra DMA thing. as seen here

Is the problem?

Also I have tried Fujifim DVD+RW and Maxell DVD+RW and have done full erase, used new ones, the whole package.

It's probably not a problem - though why it has dup's on the primary and secondary has me a bit confused.
Your able to burn DVD's (non RW) and cd's.

Check 4 port Serial ATA (the connection the drive is on) & check the dma settings.

After the firmware update have you tried burning at 2x?

What other burning programs have you tried? Tried ImgBurn yet?

I checked the Serial ATA port, doesn't have that same option to look at.

Just tried burning at x2, same error.

Downloaded ImgBurn .. it says it can't format the disc either.

Yup I am able to burn DVD and CD's just fine, not sure about CD-RW but yeah.

I just don't get this at all.

well went out and bought a new drive, LG GSA-H22N and of course nothing has changed.

I notice in my log that DMA for my drive is still off. I've tried uninstalling them all and still, the problem has to lie in having double Primary and Secondary profiles as seen below. New Log file is also underneath, this problem is driving me CRAZY.

Hi anewfound
I see you are still getting this error Formatting disc failed
which says the disc has been written and the is a problem formatting it.

Guessing with this new drive (hmmm 18x burner!) non rw is still fine.

Looked at the burn settings and they look ok - same ones I've used on RW.

The dup channel bit might not be the problem. And I'm not too sure on why it shows 2 primary & secondary. Nero also may not be reporting DMA correctly on port 4.
One thing you can try is a connecting this drive to one of the ide channels. Looks like you have 2 hard drives - using one for storage?
Not the ideal set up but connect this drive to one of those (not the primary hard drive). Change the jumper to match the connection.
