Hey well it seems I have quite the problem. My dvd burner isn't being recognized by windows. Under device manager it says:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

This leads me to believe the driver is completely missing. I've tried searching and can't find shite! Any help would be greatly appreciated seeing as tho I'm a complete idiot! Thanks!

Well! I don't feel best inclined to help you but I'm bored; so I will.
Under your drives properties there should be a button saying download latest drivers here or sumin like that...for the windows drivers...
Here's a pic as you might struggle with it...
Idiot Picture

Now update your driver...

Yeah he probably could but i had a quick half arsed google and didnt find anything. FYI his drive is a re bagged BenQ 1650; a very good drive. So i suppose you could just look for the windows driver for a BenQ1650 and that might work...

Well I've found more results for the BenQ 1650 than I have for the philips. I can't seem to find any philips based drivers for it, so should I just try to use a BenQ driver? Oh and the update drivers thing has never worked for me it just says something stupid like windows sucks at life and needs to be put out of my misery. Anyways BenQ? I've heard some talk about reflashing it but I have no idea how to do that without killing it. Thanks again

There are no drivers to download for any burner. (exception...LightScribe) There is firmware, however. Philips drives aren't know to be good drives, but it should still work.

Before you get goofy in the head (too late, I think), uninstall the drive in Device Manager, reboot, and see if it is recognized.

That Philips sure isn't BenQ compatible, so don't try to crossflash it to a BenQ. It won't work. As a matter of fact, I would bet that you would get a message saying no compatible drive found, when you try to flash.

Life is good!

Urm well yes you can crossflash the two, actually...
See Here

So... if he wanted to then he could...but it's quite a complictaed process and he's not the brightest of sparks by the sounds of it so i dont know whether it is recommendable... lol
