Hi All, I've just acquired a PSP V2, so I'm a Noob to the PSP arena.
I've been searching this site for the last few days trying to understand and unpick what's what, and what is needed to be able to back up your UMD games / Movies to your PC and play them off your memory stick. I'm lso looking to use some of the emulators that are around - Homebrew you guys call it I think!
The problem is that I'm very confused! Devhook this / Downgrade that / Eload this / Brick that...... I don't class myself as being stupid, but am unable to decipher the correct route to take.
The gist of it, I believe, is that I need to Downgrade to v.1.5, but am not sure how too and how it all works!!
Could someone please advise as to what I need to do to be able to do this.
I know you are a wise and patient bunch with us noobs, so would be grateful for any info.
Yours, Very confused!

first to see if you are able to downgrade, on the PSP screen with Settings, Photo, Music etc. (some people call this XMB) and go Settings/System Settings/System Information and see what the System Software is, if it is 2.71 or below you can downgrade, there are other things but first things first :)

OK I was like this at the start but you soon get to grips with it, some information first:
* Devhook - Allows ISOs/CSOs of retail games to be played and emulate firmware up to 2.71.
* Downgrade - This changes the firmware of your PSP to v1.5, which is needed in order to run Devhook and therefore ISOs/CSOs/Homebrew.
I am not sure about how to back up UMD games, I have never felt the need to but there is deffinately a program that does it. In order to play movies off your memory stick you they need to be in .MP4 format. To convert them key "PSP Video 9" into Google and download that program, it probably the best available and totally FREE.
After conversion just place them in the relevent video folder on your PSP, inside the \MP_ROOT\100MNV01 if I'm not mistaken and just rename it to M4Vxxxxx.MP4 (where xxxxx are any 5 numbers, usually 00001).

Hi guys thanks for the advice.
Finally got round to upgrading to 2.71 and used the downgrader as suggested and I'm now the proud owner of a v1.5 PSP
Thanks for all your support, greatly appreciated.

Jeez guys I cant beleive you told him to upgrade to 2.71 instead of downgrading from 2.0. Downgrading from 2.0 is much easier and way less chance of bricking. Glad to hear you got a 1.5 now. Have fun.
