Ok im new and im sure this question has been asked a hundred times before. I have a movie that is in an AVI format. using cucusoft i converted the movie from AVI to dvd, then cucsoft burned the file to dvd. When played in my computer the disc works great, but when i put it in my standalone dvd player, it freezes every second or so for an instant. I have a cyberhome dvd-300 player. Anyone know how to fix this problem.

First, I would like to say that I am unfamiliar with the software you are using. Also, I am assuming that you only have 1 video that was not split up in any way.

There are a couple of things I could think of. It is possible that the software you used got the filed order incorrect on the source AVI. This would cause some type of bad playback on a standalone that would not show up on a PC.

Also, there could be problems with the minimum or maximum bitrate. Some DVD players do not like bitrate to go too low. Some say that a safe level for minimum is 2000kbps. I go as low as 800kbps and so far there are no problems on mine.

With Max, you want to make sure that the total bitrate of a home made DVD does not exceed 8000kbps. This means if you are using 192kbps AC3 stereo, the max video bitrate can be 7808 or 7800 if you want to keep it round. If you have subtitles, lower it more.

Although DVDs can be a max of 9800kbps, it is not good to have home made DVDs go this high because something could go wrong.

Another thing I could think of is if the software is incorrectly flagging the cells. This would only be the case if the skipping/pausing happens at chapter breaks. You would need to look at the DVD with something like PGCEdit and made sure that all the cells are seamless.
