I'm disillusioned about scans now. here are two scans of the same disk, one by Nero one by DVDInfo Pro. Nero shows a 95% score while Info Pro show over 98%. Which one is correct?

I'm using Nero 6.6.0.18 and DVDInfo Pro V4.610
I know that the scores are OK and it's on good media and the true worth of a disk is "Will it rip again" but what makes Nero's score the right score or visa versa for DVDInfo Pro.

hi :)
looks good to me.
LOCOENG and i have had the same conversation and compared scans on BB. we both agreed that the BenQ gives a higher score with more or less the same PI..PIF readings. Binkie7 has a LiteOn and she gets the same results as myself

Hi there,

I am no expert on the matter, but here's my opinion.

I think there is no 2 identical scan.

If you scan the same media 4 times on the save drive, I would expect 4 different results.

If on a scan it was able to read Sector xxxxx but failed on the 2nd test, results may vary.

If test #1 was 95% and test #2 was 74% then I would worry.

But seing they are all around the same % with a small difference of 2% or 3% I would say it's absolutly normal.

As long as all tests are above 95%+ I'm a happy camper :)

Comments anyone ?

I kind of figuered that but, you know, it's a trial and error thing. I'm used to it and all that matters is: can you still rip from the copied disk! Yeah the scans are good....so no worries.... right!

hi :)
going on from what i said above, during the testing we did, below is a copy/paste of a question i asked after scanning a 2 yr old disc. the scan was hideous

"the disc has a sticky label on it and was burned very close to the outer edge (before i new any better) a while ago

please note the quality score...0

questions

1... did this disc play all the way through with zero glitches ?

2... did it copy ? "

the answer was yes to both questions. (so go figger)

it depends on the player and you're lucky...... I have a couple of disks with sticky labels on them that play great! I should scan them and see what they score....... ahhhhhhhh when I'm ambitious enough, not now!!!!! LOL

Hey IHoe,

<In Your Dreams Mode>: ON

I burned Memorex Media at 16x and put a big fat label on top.
Forgot it on the dash of my car for 2 days, does that matter ?

I'm having playback issues and my PiPo Scans are at 0%
Luck the software doesn't go negative, I think I would have hit -87%

Can you help ?

<In Your Dreams Mode>: OFF

:) :) :) :)

Well, here's one of mine, from the famous genuine YUDEN000T02. Well, this is one of my latest scans. I haven't tested/scanned for the longest cause I know for sure that I'm using the best media and I've done enough testing already. Evidently, nearly 99.9% of all my scans are 95% with Nero and 99% from DVDInfo Pro.

Hi,

The above Nero Scan used ECC 1.12 Intervals for the scan.

I am not sure what values are used for DVDInfoPro.

If it used ECC 8 Intervals for the scan, values will change.

I used to try to figure out why I kept getting different scan results from the same disk even using the same drive and read and read and read all about it came to the conclusion that none of the scanning programs are consistant enough with all the types of drives out there to matter much. As long as I use quality media and burn them correctly and it plays well and looks good I no longer worry about scanning them anymore.

I asked the same question here...coulda sworn I got an answer, but looking back through the thread I didn't so I won't link to the entire thread. The best place to ask would be at CDfreaks.
