Hello,
I'm currently having a problem burning any discs with Nero. I keep getting "burn process failed" as soon as it starts to write to the DVD.
I have a memorex DVD writer that came with Nero Suite, it supports DVD + / - / RW discs.
I have Nero OEM version 6.6.1.4
Here is the error log:

The Nero InCD packet writing software can cause problems. Unless you have a real need for it, run the Nero InCD Clean Tool to remove it.

The above driver can conflict with Nero sometimes, so it's best to uninstall any Roxio software like Easy Media Creator if installed and then run the Roxio Zapper to remove the above driver.

That particular Sony media is troublesome to quite a few burners. Although your burner firmware is up to date, it is an older burner. I don't know the last time it was updated and may not cover this particular Sony media. I note you did say you tried some Fuji media as well. You migth try some older 8X media. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or any media labeled Made in Japan, especially Fuji or Sony, would be a good choice. Have you had success using both the Fuji and Sony media before?

I'm not a fan of the version of Nero you're using. I'd suggest downgrading to 6.6.0.18 which is the best version of Nero 6 by far imo. Uninstall your current version. You also need to run the Nero 6 Clean Tool after uninstalling. Be sure to write down your program serial number.

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html

Nero 6.6.0.18:
Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Ner....0.18_no_yt.exe
Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

In order to make sure your burner is functioning correctly, output a Nero image file with the Nero Image Recorder or with whatever authoring software you're using and then burn that image file with ImgBurn.

Hello, Thanks for the reply, I ran the in cd clean tool as well as the roxio uninstall tool, rebooted the laptop and tried again

This time it appears to be working with the DVD +Rs but still gives the same error when I attempt to burn with the DVD -Rs

Just a week ago I burned about 6 DVDs (data and movies) with those same exact discs without any issues so I'm not sure why the type of media would be an issue now, I guess my next step is to downgrade Nero as suggested....here is my most current log after applying those clean tools

I sort of wanted you to try using ImgBurn since if it worked OK, the problem would be isolated to Nero.

The Fuji disks you're using are actually made by Prodisk, a very low quality supplier. That's why we only recommend made in Japan labeled Fuji.

sorry about that, for some reason I was thinking Fuji & Fujifilm as the same thing.

I will try the imgburn and other dvd -r brand and reply with the log

Hi.

Buying disks is a crapshoot to some extent. Many just rebrand disks made by others so buying on brand alone is not sufficient most of the time. Taiyo Yuden makes and sells its own disks and is a very high quality manufacturer. Verbatim also makes and sells its own and is also a very high quality maker. Made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony are usually Taiyo Yuden disks as well so that's why they are recommended. Fuji and Fujifilm are the same company. Fuji makes some of its own disks but uses disks made by others as well. If the Fujis are made in Japan, they'll be good, otherwise, not so much.

This is a small file to be writing to a DVD. Was this just for testing purposes?

Your burner seems to dislike that Sony media. Do you have any other media to try. It may be the case of your burner going bad, but you'll need to try other media first. As I've said before, this particular Sony media is troublesome to other burners as well. Also since your burner is older and doesn't seem to have a very recent firmware update, that may be the problem. Memorex apparently no longer supports this drive based on what I can tell from their support site. They lump this in the discontinued section and just state that everyone should use the firmware version you already have. Your best bet is to locate some older, maybe 8X, media and try that. There is a lot of Sony 8X around labeled Made in Japan that is actually Taiyo Yuden top quality media. It's been on sale a number of times at various places the past month.

I don't see anything in the log that seems to be causing problems. What media did you use to get the good burn the other day after your first set of changes?

Yes, the file size was just for testing purposes. I even tried to burn a bigger file (2 gig iso file) just to see what happened and had the same problem.

The media I used to get the good burn the other day was Fujifilm DVD +Rs, which is fine for data, but for movies I prefer the higher compatibility with stand alone players of -Rs so hopefully these other brands work, unless it is an actual problem with the burner itself

I'm going to try these 8x japanese discs and see what happens, do they have to be ordered online or are they in normal stores ( best buy, comp usa, etc)

In the U.S., they can be found at nearly all retailers. Finding the Made in Japan disks is more difficult, most will be labeled made in Taiwan probably. The Sony 8X MIJ can usually be found at Best Buy but you have to go thru the stacks to find them. Sam's Club always has some. The Sony MIJ are easy to ID. It will say made in Japan on the label and have an octagonal top stopper, not a round one. Verbatim is a good choice as well even though they are made in Taiwan; they are top notch. There really isn't any compatibility issues with +R vs -R media any longer. In fact, +R media can be booktyped to DVD-ROM if your burner supports doing so, while -R media cannot. I use +R media almost exclusively. Most players support both formats natively.

are these discs the ones?
DVD-R.html" target="_blank">http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-DVD-R.html

they say they are 4x, but whenever i burn a DVD -r it never lets me pick higher than 4x anyway

or should i get 8x like listed above? the 8x dvd-rs for that brand say they are "thermal" and i'm not sure what that means

Those are ok, but instead of purchasing a bunch of media, just buy a few locally and see if they work. Verbatim can be found almost anywhere. Or just use up the +R media you already have.

I hear ya, but I always use up alot of discs so I'll never have too many....The dvd +Rs don't give me any problems at all and burn fine...I try the same project with a DVD+R and get 100% success and then try the same with a DVD-R and get the illgegal disc error

I have burned with those same sony dvd-Rs in the past with success, (actually from the same 50 pack of DVDs) but one always failed here and there, allthough now none are successful

I'm gonna try to pick up some of those verbatim and see if those work...if not I'll re-install windows, if i'm still having the issues, then maybe its the burner itself

thanks for the assistance

Yes, i'm hoping it's just that particular media.
