Just wondering if anybody knows a way (or ways) around the latest issue I am having when backing up my PS2 - DVD games. Not often mind you, but often enough, I come accross a game that contains an "Unrecoverable Error" while attempting to back it up and the program(s) will just quit. The latest title I have found this in is the new Star Wars Lego II game.
I usually use DVD Decrypter but have also tried with Nero, Alcholo120%, and several others. In the case of this title, it always gets to about 70% complete and then says there is an unrecoverable error and quits. As it always gets to the same percentage in each program, and I've had it happen on other backups in the past, I can only conclude it is one of the latest developer tricks.
So, does anyone have a workaround or suggested software... or can I just not do backups of those games and have to keep my fingers crossed the kids don't lose/damage it as often happens?!
Its not a developer trick, just your drive not being able to read the disc at that point. Could be due to a scratch on the disc, or your reader's laser needing cleaned.
You could always download the particular game you want to make a backup of.
I originally had the same thoughts you mentioned. However, the game was brand new out of the box (I always try to back them up right away BEFORE my kids are able to scratch them!!) and I always use a cleaner before putting them in the drive. More importantly though, I have 2 different systems with different types of DVD burners and got the same results with both computers.
I realize that brand new games can have defects and that if there IS a defect, both computers would have issues with it. I just find it strange that it's not the first time it's happened. What are the chances of "several" brand new games having defects right out of the box?
