i am about to buy a slim ps2 and i know some stuff about the whole mod thing.but i dont know a whole lot about the difference a modchip and swap magic make(except with swap magic i know its a manual sort of thing).so my question is does a modchip read DVD-R or DVD+R any better than a system that has magic keys and swap magic.i am wondering because i want to safe myself some time and money in the long run.thanks in advance....
There are many games that don't run on Swap Magic unless you get a fix for it. On a good quality modchip, you don't need to get a fix. Also, you never have to rebuild games if you play on a modchip. If you're going to get a slim PS2, make sure you get a laser fix if it's an older model. You don't have to worry about a laser fix for the newer models, but it's nice to have just in case. You wouldn't want your laser to be burning out quickly.
oh and addition i have a slim ps2 v14 i installed the tools so it can play while open.. which sucked because for tool c you have to bend this tiny piece of metal to fit in the tool.. NERVE RACKING!!!! but now.. its like i still cant get it to work im not retared i can burn iso's and all that so i dont know wtf is wrong.. because i didnt have me for advice i bought swap magic and the tools for 29 bucks, i could have spent 11 dollars more and gotten a mod chip that plays cd-r's DVD-RDVD+R has an onboard media app so it can read homebrews like XviD or DivX.. i hope i can get my shit to work but in the meantime, save a little more money, find someone who solders really good and get a real modchip.. cause my experience is swap magic sucks.. but it obviously works for somepeople, just not me. and in addition it seems like everyone who does have it running and working is on a older pst with that slide card deal.. but thats just some straight up honest advice from someone who started this all on like friday of last week. i think i have burned 17 different dvds with no luck.. and im about to just order a real modchip.. or better just buy a premodded system with a warrantee thats the best way! atleast id think so.. oh and more good advice, buy your ps2 from gamestop if its in your area, pay the 20 bucks for the free replace ment for 2 years or whatever.. my buddy had his system fly out of the back of his truck on the freeway on his way back from gamestop. it was still in the box but it was crushed. he got a newone the same day.. so if you mess up modding it it will only be 20 dollars to get a replacement.. but you have to pay at the checkout when you buy it.. thats all for now
thanks that helped me alot?why dont you make your own thread and a question that relates to your problem instead of using mine and using so that it doesnt make any sense.i dont care vlad about gamestop because im buying a ps2 from best buy so keep your feeling to yourself cuz i dont care.
I'll say this -- Swap Magic does not suck, and it's compatiblity with most games is amazing. I'm not a big fan of the magic switch tool set, because it looks pretty tedious to set up. You might want to consider replacing the stock fliptop with a custom fliptop that's designed for Swap Magic. That way, all you have to do is flip the lid up and swap the discs. No more inserting keys all over the place and removing them when you want to close the lid.
