I was just wanting to confirm something here on the forum:
1) Is it true, that when installing Nero 7 Ultra, no matter what custom installation options you select (IE: I select ONLY the burning ROM and EVERYTHING else is disabled) that Nero still installs Nero Scout regardless?
I already have the registry edit that disables it. I just wanted to make sure there is not an easier way to avoid it all together when initially installing.
2) Also, does the registry edit disable the program all together or does it still run in the background at start up (with the icon removed from My Computer?)
2) - You can check what programs run at startup and disable them with many tools. One I use is WinPatrol, which can also warn you of any new startup program and allow you to prevent it from loading.
Sounds great for future apps. I'll keep that in mind ;)
However, I'd also like to verify questions 1 and 2 above as I'll be teaching some others about Nero and I need all the info I can get regarding the above info.
When I installed the lastest version of Nero, Nero scout was also part on the install even though I didn't check the option.
Here's the proper way to disable:
The first thing to do is to disable Nero Scout via its own interface. To do so, double-click on the My Computer icon. Right-click on the Nero Scout icon and choose Options. Then uncheck the option for Enable Nero Scout.
Reboot your PC and see if you are still experiencing problems related to Nero scout. If you are, and you are running Nero 7, you can also perform the following actions:
Click on the Start button and choose Run. Type the following line exactly as it appears:
If you've made a registry change and rebooted to disable the scout, then it shouldn't run at all at any time. You can check by going to start--run....type msconfig and click ok, click on the startup tab and make sure that the scout isn't listed (if it is just uncheck it to disable it).
