backed-up games on a non-modded ps2? ? ?

i've read many tutorials on this forum on how to backup ps2 games and only a few have mentioned a modded ps2, so i didn't think it would be absolutley necessary, so i tried burning a few games onto blank dvd's using DVD Encrypter, but i have no modifications done to my PS2, and i get a red screen that says "please insert a playstation or playstation2 formatted disc", is this because the console is not modded? ? ? does it really need to be? ? ?

Hey. It doesn't have to cost big bucks to get modded. A flip-top lid and Swap magic discs and you're good to go. Saves alot of money in the long run.
