Time bar moves too fast

I have several mpgs that I know are good files cause they used to play properly. Now the time bar in any media player i've tried moves too fast and the movie stops before the end. If I advance the time bar manually the movie will skip ahead to a later part but the bar continues to move too fast. I've tried media player, XviD, mplayer etc. and they all have the same problem so I'm thinking it's codecs or something in the os. This doesn't happen with every file but several. Does anyone have any ideas?

I uninstalled all codecs as per your page and reinstalled the ones your other page said to. I still have the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas whatsoever?
