Which ripping software for what I need?

Hello,
I have a DVD of a documentary presentation I did a few months back that I'd like to rip to my computer. I would then like to edit this with my Adobe Premiere. However, I need to know what kind of ripping software I should look into if I just want my DVD image ripped either to .avi or .mpg, which would be the easiest file types to manipulate on my computer. So which ripping software would best suit me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't need any ripping software. If this is a documentary presentation you did, simply copy the files to your hard drive.

Ah, but that's the tricky part. I do indeed have the original footage of the documentary itself. Its about 30 minutes of .avi footage. However, this is only half the deal. I have a videotape of the actual prsentation OF this video, which included musical performances that I wish to include on the final product. So in effect, I have a video of me standing in front of the screen on which the original footage is played. I would like to rip the DVD footage of the live musical performances and speaking (the DVD of the presentation itself) to include with the original footage (just the Premiere-created .avi file) and be able to edit the whole deal. Yeah, it's nitpicky, but I'd prefer to do it that way.
