Hello,

I encode my DVDs using XviD codec for video and mp2 for audio using TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress BUT recently I have formatted my computer and I've installed TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress again but I don't have the option of selecting mp2 as the audio... :S

If anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it.

Thanking in advance,

I'd suggest mp3 over mp2, although technically mp2 offers better quality at higher bitrates. Still better to keep the AC3 in such a case.

I also really wouldn't recommend TMPGEnc for XviD encoding. But TMPGEnc uses ACM encoders I believe so you would need to install an ACM mp2 encoder. Problem is that I can't think of one.

Thanks for suggestion.

What program would you recommend for XviD encoding?
and If anyone knows where to get ACM mp2 encoder, could you please show me?

A good place to start would be with the one click type apps like AutoGK, FairUse Wizard, StaxRip, AVI.net, etc.

I canot understand why you're 'obliged' to deal with MP2 audio.
AVI files do not support MP2. They support either AC3 or MP3.
Instead, DVD movies [= video + audio(s) (+ subtitles) multiplexed in a VOB set] support either AC3 or MP2 and do NOT support MP3.

That is: if you make a DVD movie, MP2 is fine. If you make an AVI you ust use MP3.

Or, more simply, stick to 1+1 channels (since you start from 2 channels, you cannot end with 6 channels) AC3. Use FFMPEG GUI, to transform audio files into AC3 files.

Ah, the default frame (48000 Hz) is fine. DVD players only play audio files sampled @ 48000 Hz (for both AVI and DVD movies).

Hey aldaco12,

Whoops! My Mistake.

CORRECTION: MPEG 1 or 2 Audio Layer 1 <-- Not 2 or 3, what is audio layer 1? is it good?

Background Info:

I record home videos using JVC Everio Camera
I send to computer to edit/enhance/encode/author/etc...
I burn it on a DVD
I "backup" the end result Video by compressing it using XviD and using "the now discovered" mpeg audio layer 1

Recently I formatted my computer and lost the mpeg audio layer 1.

But I guess your saying Mpeg audio layer 3 is better eh?
Btw, What are good settings (small file size with Good Quality) for encoding using XviD?

AVI does support mp2 audio, also AAC, wma, pcm, etc. way more than just mp3 and AC3.
