IM1-
Everyone has a different oppinion when it comes to AMD VS. Intel. In my oppinion AMD has a better product than Intel. Now the particular laptop you just pointed me to is a Sempron processor. A Sempron is similar to a Celeron. They have very little Cache and even if it says that it is a 2-Gig processor it is really only running at around 1.78 Gigs.

Look at some of the different processors on the market and try to find the processor that you desire. Then search for a machine that has that processor or build it yourself.

Well, for $750 dollars you are not looking at much. For around $1200 I could suggest a great laptop. What you might want to do is see about upgrading your current laptop. When it comes to the processor don't buy Sempron or Celeron and try to get the processor speed around 2 Gigs. For your memory I would sugest at least 512MB.

You should do alright if you get a new one on those web sites you listed. In most cases buying referbished is better. I myself build my computers. I can decide what I want and don't want. Most of the time when you buy a computer you are given things you don't need. I spend that money buying things that I do need.

Basically just stay away from the two processors I mentioned and you should be alright. AMD is normally a little cheaper than Intel but you should be able to do alright. If you find something and you want my opinion then post and I will be notified.

Good luck!

i hate seeing double, it's most confusing. i gave an answer here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/399949

if it's a choice between those two - the AMD laptop has better spec.

edit- i'm sat here replying on my AMD Turion (64bit) laptop from Comet

my laptop has the AMD Turion 64 ML-30 which is 1600 MHz (1024 KB Level 2 Cache) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turion_64

The HP you listed is a Sempron processor, the Toshiba is a Celeron, i think the best of the 3 is this one (The Turion 64) - http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/572_356140.html

..but it's not my £400 so you should await other opinions first..
