Allright, i plan to upgrade my PC again, althought i don't know much about PC's over time i have learned a bit more, I asked a question on the IntelP4 vs AMD...the 124 page thread, and i got some advice from brobear and Sophocles, if i do remember correctly.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/33/235934

But now,i want to change my CPU. I know i have 512 mb ddr ram, but I'm not sure how upgradable my motherboard is. I can get up to 2GB of RAM/memory, but I'm not quite sure how upgradable my CPU is. I want to get an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0GHz / 1MB Cache / 2000MHz. Apparently i need an AM2 CPU soccet, andI'm not sure if my motherboard has it.
I'm thinking this.
Here is the link to the CPU i want>.<

I'm not even sure if this is my motherboard, but thisis the closest one.

Should i just change my motherboard completly? I can't find enough information about my mother boards capabilities because it's pretty old.(arround 2 years)
My current CPU is a low budget AMD Sepron 3000+
thanks for the help=)
I was thinking this..

google cpuz and download it. that will give you all the info about your system.(all the main hrdware)

if it is socket "a" like the one in the link you wont be able to get that cpu you want, you would need a mobo with socket "939" or "am2". if you go 939 you can keep your ram but there will be no more new processors made for it as it has been discontinued. am2 is amd's new baby and it uses ddr2, so that means you will need new ram aswel.

i cant honestly advise you to buy either as intels new chip the core 2 duos (conroe) is the king at the min and if i was to upgrade mine now i would go for one of those(e6600 if cashflow allowed).

you would get a better response if you post in the pc building thread as they would have a better idea of the best retailers in the us

The one thing you need to do is go to a place and discuss the M'board and processor that you want. I recently updated my CPU but was able to get a M'Board that supported both my DDR Ram as well as the new DDR2 Ram. I did not have to replace my RAM which saved me close to 100 bucks.

If you are searching online make sure that whatever socket your new processor will be, that the M'board supports your DDR Memory. I am 80% certain that you will not find a newer processor to fit the socket of an AMD Sempron. A Sempron processor is like a Celeron processor. I always tell people not to buy them.

Ok thank's for replying.
I don't think i will need to post this subject on another forum, because i know (well I think i know) exactly what I want to do.
First I'll need an AM2 CPU compatable motherboard.
(having DDR2 ram would make it more efficient.)
I'll also need a PCI express GPU (because currently i have some geforce 6200 AGP card)
And then i probably will have to replace my curent RAM with DDR2, since I have DDR RAM.
Hopefully, these upgrades will boost up my PC'S performance by alot!

Well with my budget, I think I'll stick with the AMD, core 2's are still quite expencive

Thanks for the advice..
