Greetings to all,

I'm just getting into the whole backing up of my games and what not, and
I just had a couple of quick questions:

1). I've done a little research on the topic, and I've seen a couple of websites mention that it is possible for a PS2 to play backup copies without needing to install a mod chip onto the system itself.

Of the two methods I've seen that work like this, Swap Magic, and a Gameshark, I would rather use the gameshark method, as it would be much easier for me to get ahold of a gameshark quickly, where as swap magic would have to be ordered. However, of the two methods, the gameshark one isn't mentioned very much, so my question is: Is the gameshark method for playing backup copies a viable one, that works consistently, or would I be better off investing in Swap Magic instead?

(Note on that: The PS2 I have is like a 2nd or 3rd year model, and is not a PS2Slim...some things I have read mentioned that particular model, but I don't know if that is a problem or not.)

2). Software requirements? I'm pretty sure either Nero or Alcohol would be needed, and I have both so that's not a problem. But, is there any other software needed to perform the task of backing up and buring copies?

Thanks for all the help. I do apologize if these questions have been addressed before. I don't have much time as of right now to search for the answers on the forums if they have been addressed before, and i figured the best way to address my specific questions would be to just address them directly.

I appreciate you guys taking the time to read this.

1) spend the money on the swap magic it's worth it compared to the gs also, you'll need the flip top or slide card. I would recommend the flip top as it is safer to use because with the slide card you're forcing mechanical parts to move which in the long run could cause the system to break down faster.

2) the burning software of choice here seems to be dvddecrypter. It's free and easy to use. However, both Nero and alcohol will do the job.
