Well my memorex dvd writer is finally shot after 4 years...I was thinking of hitting up best buy or circuit city to purchase another.

I would like one that burns with minimal errors and is compatible with most DVD -/+ R discs

I don't even care if it has dual layer because I probably would never purchase them anyway as they are still kind of expensive

I've been reading mixed review on lots of them, I want one that works good with Nero and one that will not give me a lot of hassle

Any suggestions would be very appreciated...thank you

These drives are very good,
Pioneer 111,
NEC 3550a

Both support DL but that's just a bonus really.

I have a Sony DRU-820a and have been very happy with it. Came with Nero 6.6.0.18, although I don't actually Nero very much. This Sony is a rebadged BenQ. I believe this model is DL able, but I have never bought one of those blanks due to crazy prices. Never had a failure on the single layer disks with this burner yet (knock on synthetic).

Some of the BenQ models don't seem to be available on NewEgg lately. Would recommend their burners if you can find one.

Benq 1620/1640/1655/or 1655 if you can find any of them.I've got all but the 1655 lightscribe.

Phenomenal standalone player compatability after booktyping the plus format to dvd-rom.Approx 95%.

Very consistant 95+ scores on my test scans.

They like to burn at least 8x and above with my quality verbatim, taiyo yuden, and hitachi media.

99.9% + and above success rate. I AVG 1 coaster out of every 400+ backups.

3500+ backups on my original 1620 and still won't die.

They'll burn just about anything you slap in them. They do prefer the plus format.

Dual drives: Rip and burn on the fly-no problemo.

I use Nero on all 4 of my pcs-each with a Benq, and no problems. Nero gives me the best overall playback quality.

If I encounter a player that gives me any playback issues,99% of the time it's the stand alone player's fault, which is usually a dirty laser lens.

I checked out newegg.com and all they had was the Benq 1625 with the lightscribe. i don't see a lot of feedback from that drive.

The benqs sell like hotcakes.

Meritline.com is almost out of benq drives. I did find the Benq 1655 with lightscribe and I see a lot of peeps rave about her. I've been impressed with some awesome scans I saw posted here with that drive, but it's $16 or so higher than when newegg had them.:

They also had the Benq 1670 for $32 or so,but it's got a totally different chip set.The good benqs have the phillips chips sets.
It's a lightscribe and has dvd-ram capability.I don't see many good remarks about that drive. I'd rate it comparable to the Benq 60.
