No x-flash touches the flash so the change is permanent until you undo it. Just disabling the network icon isnt enuff tho someone could still run an update on your psp. What I did on mine to avoid this is I changed the version to 13.37. That way no update can be ran on my psp.

but i wouldn't reccommend disabling the update icon because if u get into a semi brick u can get out by upgrading.
or am i wrong?

Would having 13.37 affect my psp somehow right now or in the future?
Is 13.37 undoable?
EDIT:
@panesingh, good point.
What do you think Hex?

its not going to affect ur psp. if u want to upgrade for some ungodly reason all u have to do is change it back to 1.5 and then u can upgrade.if ur psp is going to brick then its going to brick and theres no undoing it. disabling the icon and changing the version is what i did to all my 1.5's to avoid updates being ran and its been like that for months now.
@pane
u can still run an update on the psp if the update icon is disabled. theres always running one from the memstick.

if u only disable the update icon then updates can still be ran through, yes, umd, and also from the memstick. but when u change the version number it hinders the memstick and umd way.

That i cant say for sure. but i dont think it would considering its not being ran from the sony firmware and the custom firmware, in a sort, forces it to run.

No,no,no, I mean that i just got 13.37 and was able to get the Recovery Menu, but in case i get a blick or semi-blick or whatever, I would not be able to run that feature of the recovery mode that allows you to unbrick your psp, since it run a update located in the memory stick through the recovery mode?

Sorry for the double post, but i had to end this.
Having firmware 13.37 disables that feature of the recovery mode that allows you to unbrick your psp.
If anybody knows of some thing that disable the Update icon, the UMD update, BUT not the Memory stick update, please let me know.
THANKS Hexitnow.

I have a disable network update and custom firmware. It may not work, but you can setup to launch a homebrew holding X on boot. This may work with an Update but im not sure.
