Ok so here goes.

Ive designed a new system to build, which includes Core 2 Duo E6600, and 2 GB RAM.

The question is, is RAID-0 really good for its money? I know how RAID works and what its good for - but some forums say that RAID-0 (striping) really blazes up write performance. But other forums say that it 'theoretically' increases write speed, but you cant see a difference in real-life scenarios.

Guys, i need one of you who HAVE a RAID-0 system to tell me if it REALLY DOES increase speed SIGNIFICANTLY. The hard drives that im considering are:

2 x MAXTOR 320GB SATA-2 16 MB CACHE

Thanks guys!

i don't use RAID at home, only use it (different levels) at work for big servers that i build, but RAID 0 is all well and good BUT if you lose data on one disk you lose it on BOTH disks, so personally i don't like the sound of it..
Not sure if home PC's can provide anything better than RAID 0, i'd only use it if you can have RAID 0+1 (also known as 1+0, sorry if you know this, i always write replies so they're useful to anyone that reads a thread)

Main PC ~ Intel C2Q Q6600 (G0 Stepping)/Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3/2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500/Zalman CNPS9700/Antec 900/Corsair HX 620W
Network ~ DD-WRT ~ 2node WDS-WPA2/AES ~ Buffalo WHR-G54S. 3node WPA2/AES ~ WRT54GS v6 (inc. WEP BSSID), WRT54G v2, WRT54G2 v1. *** Forum Rules ***

From my experiences with RAID, i'd say speeds up a bit, but nothing really worthwile. And the fact that if one drive dies, both drives are useless has always bothered me.
The only RAID levels i would ever recommend to a regular pc user would be RAID 1 or RAID 0+1 or 1+0, like creaky suggested.
RAID 100 (or 10+0, if you will) would be my advice to anyone running a big enough server.
