Hey everyone,

This is quite the puzzler for me. I turn on the pc and it stays on for a couple of seconds, then turns off for a couple of seconds, then turns on again and stays on. The problem doesnt stop there. I can't figure out the problem becuase the moniter will not turn on. The moniter is connected and evrything but to no avail will it turn on. I thought that maybe the video card was dead. I opened the box up and then turned it on again. The video card seemed to be working fine(the fan for it was spinning). Could all this be caused by a video card or could it be another devious problem? Thanks in advance.

I would clear the CMOS. I had this same thng happen 2 days ago, except mine did not turn off and turn on again.

There was nothing showing on the montior, yet all seemed to be running. It did not boot up into Windows, so I figured something was not up to snuff with the BIOS. Clearing the CMOS worked.

Life is good!

i had an old Compaq machine that woke me up the other night as it had turned itself on; once i knew what the noise was i noticed it happen a few times, and turning itself off too. Swapped the power supply and it stopped for a while; then i swapped the entire machine (could have swapped just the motherboard as i had a spare exact machine) but the swapped machine has other problems too so i never did get to the bottom of it.

edit- looks like i should try clearing the cmos too; cheers, will try that when i get around to it.

yeah, the machine i used in my example wasn't hibernating, it was most certainly shut down correctly/turned off after using linux..then mysteriously started itself up again..
