A DVD Recorder is the easiest method - just plug the outputs of your VCR or camcorder into your DVD recorder. You can get capture cards for your PC but they can be a bit more of a challenge to deal with.

In any case, you also may have to invest in a Time Base Corrector ("clarifier", "stablizer"), such as one of the Datavideo products. TBCs clean up tapes and copy protection (or, more commonly, prevent DVD recorders from thinking a tape is copy protected, when, in fact, it isn't. Recorders are required to not copy protected tapes, but, more often than not, they mistake home made tapes for protected ones.)

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

I used Dazzle Hollywood Bridge to hook up my VCR (or my DVR) to my computer and imported the video to the hard drive then I converted to DVD! I have old 8MM film that was converted to VHS about 17 yrs ago now on DVD...... the 8MM film is now over 53yrs old now and still runs on the old projector! Hope my DVDs last that long or longer!
