I have a Sony DW-D22A dvd drive. While using DVD Decrypter, the burn speed maxed at 1.8X. I added the firmware update and the problem was solved. A couple of weeks ago when I was burning a dvd and the drive speed returned to 1.8 max. I tried adding the firmware again, but I'm told that I have the latest firmware and no update is needed. Anyone have any ideas?

Could be that your drive simply doesn't like that media. Try using a diff. media and BTW what media are you using?

Could also be that your drive went to PIO mode. It needs to be in DMA mode. Try this:
To ensure your drives are operating in DMA mode: (1) Control Panel, (2) System, (3) Goto the Hardware Tab, (4) Device Manager, (5) IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, (6) Right Click on Primary IDE Channel --> Properties, (7) Goto the Advanced Settings Tab, Make sure both drop down boxes say 'DMA if Available', Click OK,(8) Right Click on Seconady IDE Channel --> Properties, (9) Goto the Advanced Settings Tab, Make sure both drop down boxes say 'DMA if Available', Click OK, (10) Reboot.(Thanks to Praetor)
Good luck!

Thanks for both messages. The settings are both at DMA mode. As for the media, I use Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8X. I will try other media. Next to go to the store first.

It shouldn't be your media. Taiyo is the best there is.
Have you checked to see if there is a firmware upgrade for your burner?

The only firmware available is already on my computer. I had this problem about a year ago and I downloaded the firmware and the problem was fixed. Maybe it is time to buy a new burner.

One more thing to try:
Go into your Device Manager, find your burner, and right click on it. Choose "Uninstall". After it uninstalls, reboot and let Windows detect new hardware, and install the driver for you.

Worth a try. Maybe your driver got corrupted.........
Good luck!

oops about the firmware. I didn't re-read from the beginning, and forgot you had done that......

JVC, I uninstalled the drive and restarted. I'm still having the same problem. I'm on the verge of getting a new drive and using the current one as a backup. Thanks for the help.
