i have problems playing a few backups. first it was Black. i can't get it to load on my phat ps2 (don't really mind because i didn't really want to play it, my bro does). today, i got the final fantasy 12 backup and i also having the same problem loading it

is it a mod chip specific problem or i'm just unlucky. i think i have the messiah 3 chip on my phat ps2. am i hopeless or what?

You're using a chip, so they should work burnt normally.
What brand of media are you using to burn? Are they -R or +R?
If +R, are you booktyping to DVD-ROM before burning?
and finally, What's the max speed of the disc, and what speed do you burn at?

Yes all that does matter, bad media=bad results. Find out from your friend what type of discs he uses and what speed they are burnt at, he is very likely to be screwing your PS2 up really fast.

Some games may work fine because they have little amounts of loading, but games that are constantly loading new data will have trouble keeping up with gameplay, or not play at all.

Has nothing to do with your chip.

Bad media makes your PS2 work much harder wearing out your laser in double speed, USE GOOD MEDIA, ITS A MUST
