I see from the forums that a lot of the experts don't like Belkin modem routers - and if only I'd looked at the comments before I purchased my Belkin G+ MIMO modem/router a week ago! I currently have it connected to my PC via an Ethernet cable, and it worked fine. Because the wireless interfered with some other electrical equipment in my home office, I temporarily disabled the wireless, which you can do via the Belkin set-up screen by simply selecting a radio-button. The trouble now is that when I came to enable the wireless again to set up my laptop, it won't do it (the progress bar just stops half way) - and worse, attempting to enable the wireless again seems to make the entire set-up freeze, so although there is still access to the Internet, I can't now access the set-up screen at 192.168.2.1 at all! The only way to make it work again is to do a factory reset, and then all seems OK. But, after this, disabling the wireless causes exactly the same problem! I have struggled to get assistance from Belkin, and when I eventually did get to talk to someone, he was like a broken record about "turning off firewalls" which he stated were "definitely causing the problem". He was ignoring my constant protestations that I had actually disabled the firewalls (both the Windows XP LAN & the Norton)as I knew that this could cause some problems. I have checked that I have the current versions of software & firmware. I know that simply leaving the wireless on is an option, but I'm resentful at paying a lot of money and not being able to use the enable/disable functionality - and if I don't need the wireless aspect at any specific time, then surely turning it off and just using the Ethernet is a good security measure? Any ideas on what could be causing this, folks?
