I see from the forums that a lot of the experts don't like Belkin modem routers - and if only I'd looked at the comments before I purchased my Belkin G+ MIMO modem/router a week ago! I currently have it connected to my PC via an Ethernet cable, and it worked fine. Because the wireless interfered with some other electrical equipment in my home office, I temporarily disabled the wireless, which you can do via the Belkin set-up screen by simply selecting a radio-button. The trouble now is that when I came to enable the wireless again to set up my laptop, it won't do it (the progress bar just stops half way) - and worse, attempting to enable the wireless again seems to make the entire set-up freeze, so although there is still access to the Internet, I can't now access the set-up screen at 192.168.2.1 at all! The only way to make it work again is to do a factory reset, and then all seems OK. But, after this, disabling the wireless causes exactly the same problem! I have struggled to get assistance from Belkin, and when I eventually did get to talk to someone, he was like a broken record about "turning off firewalls" which he stated were "definitely causing the problem". He was ignoring my constant protestations that I had actually disabled the firewalls (both the Windows XP LAN & the Norton)as I knew that this could cause some problems. I have checked that I have the current versions of software & firmware. I know that simply leaving the wireless on is an option, but I'm resentful at paying a lot of money and not being able to use the enable/disable functionality - and if I don't need the wireless aspect at any specific time, then surely turning it off and just using the Ethernet is a good security measure? Any ideas on what could be causing this, folks?

check to see if their are any available updates from Belkin. if that doesnt work and the product is still somewhat new bring it to where ever you bought it and return it complaining it is faulty. finally if niether work fro you go and buy a linksys wireless router.. their the best.

Thanks very much for your reply. I have asked Belkin about updated firmware - they now state that the problem I am having "is a known problem" and that "their developers are working on it" but that there is nothing they can do to help me in the meantime. Although reluctant to change routers yet again, I think this will be my only option as I just can't face resetting the modem and inputting my data every time I want to enable/disable wireless! But I think that Belkin should warn people about these "known problems" - there is nothing on their website!

i've had many months of intermittent hassle with some Belkin Routers, in the end (cutting a very long miserable story short) returned the Belkins and switched to decent routers ie Linksys, no problems in months. Job done, i got 2 Linksys's that work perfectly, and an old D-Link router that gets reused sometimes, but my wallet is going nowhere near any Network gear by Belkin again.

I now agree! The only reason I actually opted for the Belkin in the first place was that it was strongly recommended by PC Pro magazine! I thought that they might know what they were talking about!
