I dont know much about the custom firmwares. how theyre flashed and what not. But if the recovery mode on the custom firmware doesnt require a gameboot to load an update eboot you can always try that. i would ask guano hes an expert with custom firmwares.

Oooh that's a toughie, though Hex. It sounds like if he can't launch anything without the gameboot loading screen, they're's no way to launch an update, X-Flash, or any homebrew app to save his PSP. Unless he's running a 2.71 eLoader. In that case he could maybe use X-Flash off that.

@kaz
i never said anything using homebrew or x-flash. that was about the custom firmware. and i dont think the custom firmware installer uses a gameboot before booting into install mode. but i could be wrong.
yes that would fix the problem but i believe the way the custom firmware installer runs it doesnt use the gameboot. i could be wrong but i think its like that. once u install the custom firmware then u could boot into recovery mode and run the 1.5 update. but like i said pm guano before u go buy a new mobo.

psp-hacks.com - go to downloads - firmware - custom firmware - theres quite a few custom firmwares out now like 2-3 custom 1.5's and 1 custom 2.71.

undiluted platinum is only for people with the psp modchip. as for 2.71 thats up to you. there is also 1.5 custom firmwares that allow u to remove corrupted data icons and dual boot between the firmware on flash and the emulated firmware on devhook.

thats why i was recommending the custom firmware because there is a recovery mode incase something like this happens. although im not sure it will work in your situation, that's why i recommended contacting guano. hes very knowledgeable with custom firmwares.

^^ I don't know if you can get it fixed if you intentionally messed your psp up while trying to hack it, or you just might have to pay for it but I wouldn't send my "tried to hack" psp to sony even if it was all for good intentions ex. homebrew
